Ζάμιες
Zamia furfuracea
Description
Ζάμιες (Zamia furfuracea) is a striking, slow-growing cycad prized for its glossy, dark green, pinnate leaves that form a compact, symmetrical rosette. Its natural tolerance to low light and drought makes it an ideal choice for both indoor and shaded outdoor spaces. Perfect as a sculptural focal point or complement to contemporary plant collections, this resilient species adds architectural interest and a touch of tropical elegance to any setting.
Care Instructions
- **Light:** Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some shade. Avoid direct midday sun, which may scorch the leaves. - **Watering:** Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly, then let excess drain away. Reduce watering in winter, as the plant’s growth slows. - **Soil:** Use a well-draining, fertile potting mix. A blend of general-purpose compost with added sand or perlite to improve drainage is ideal. - **Temperature:** Thrives in temperatures between 18°C and 27°C (65°F–80°F). Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 10°C (50°F). - **Humidity:** Tolerates average indoor humidity but benefits from occasional misting if the air is very dry. - **Feeding:** Feed monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser diluted to half strength. No feeding is necessary during the dormant winter months.
